A bright family friendly bold duck based branding solution for Derbyshire based soft play hire company.
Skyeland Soft Play provide soft play, ball pool and bouncy castle hire for baby and toddler parties, christening and weddings. Based in Derbyshire, SkyeLand works with clients across the UK to help create the best experiences for babies, toddlers. They are a family owned company that is passionate about children and families and do a lot of charity work for local communities, and are always looking to expand their support network.
Andrew from Skyeland tasked me to produce a striking, fun and family-friendly branding solution.
The caveat was that the design HAD to include a rubber duck.
Often having strict conditions on a brief can lead to more creativity not less, and this was how the Skyeland project went. On to of the rubber duck requirement, Andrew also had the idea to include an “S” within the shape of the duck. As I sat down to sketch the draughts, I quickly developed a solution to the S rubber duck that I was pleased with, but I’d also had some thoughts with ducks but no S.
I tidied up my draughts and presented 3 designs to the Skyeland team. The S duck, an offset outlined duck and a geometric duck.
3 Proposed Logos, S Duck, Offset Duck and Geometric Duck.
After a little more development on a couple of the ideas, we settled on the geometric design which was refined and smartened up. Andrew wanted to have a wide variety of colour options based on a collection of ducks they had at home, the strong image of the geometric duck was robust enough to be reproduced in any colour and shade so suited the multiple colour ways we settled on.
Once outputted in various formats and text alternatives, I produced over 1000 files for use by Skyeland over print, the web, internal documents and professional purposes!
To accompany the logo I produced a colourful rubber duck wallpaper produced from photographs of ducks and digitally laid out. Based around a single square, the pattern tiles endlessly to produce a seamless design at any scale and size.
Endlessly Tile-able Wallpaper
The duck wallpaper is reproduced in various applications from elements of the stationary and flyers to van signage. The van was put together by Sign & Print based in Ripley using the elements I outputted, it’s exciting to see what other professionals do with the tools I provided, and it looks jolly well! I especially like the Asymmetry they used as the logo on the other side is one of our other colours!
And the applications were the final element of the branding project, with business cards and letterheads for company use as well as an A5 flyer, DL flyer and large pull-up banner.
I’m also continuing to work with Skyeland on additional elements from invites and thanks cards to colouring books and further branding projects!

A logo could cost anywhere from nothing to a six-figure sum and over!
You’re not here to be given a huge ballpark figure, so, along with an idea to be more succinct and direct, logo design starts from £500.
